The global AI competition is booming, and the Indian semiconductor industry is also actively laying out, and the first AI chips are about to be unveiled.
According to media reports, the Indian company Ola Electric recently announced the launch of AI chips, of which Bodhi 1, Ojas and Sarv 1 three chips are expected to be listed in 2026, and another Bodhi 2 is expected to be listed in 2028.
This will be the first AI chip in India, it is reported that Bodhi 1 is designed for AI reasoning, suitable for LLM and visual models, Bodhi 2 is the series of chip connector; Designed for specific applications, Ojas offers custom chips for a variety of applications, including automotive, mobile, iot, and more. Sarv 1 is a general-purpose server CPU based on the Arm instruction set, designed to meet the huge demand for AI computing in data centers.
Ola Electric said that the AI chips can provide better performance and power savings than NVIDIA Gpus, but the company did not disclose further data.
In recent years, the Indian semiconductor industry has ushered in a relatively rapid development stage, covering many aspects from design, manufacturing, packaging and testing. At the same time, India is also actively promoting chip assembly and localized production, aiming to become a significant player in the global semiconductor market. In February, India approved a 1.26 trillion rupee ($15.2 billion) investment plan for semiconductor manufacturing in fabs and chip packaging, including India's first fab in partnership between Tata Group and LSMC.
In the field of artificial intelligence, as the AI wave continues to develop, India's demand for AI continues to rise, and recent media pointed out that Indian data center and server company Yotta ordered 16,000 NVIDIA Gpus, which are scheduled to arrive next year, and another 16,000 were delivered last month.
To promote the development of AI, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched a number of initiatives, including the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence committee, the development of AI guidelines, the establishment of an iot Center of excellence and a technology research center, aiming to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem to promote the application of AI in various fields. In addition, India also plans to invest a lot of money in AI research and development and infrastructure construction in the next five years to accelerate the development and application of AI technology.
Driven by the policy, India has also seen the emergence of many local manufacturers in the AI industry, including Ola Electric and some AI startups, which have made certain achievements in natural language processing, machine vision, intelligent assistants and other fields. In the future, under the continuous help of policies and the active layout of manufacturers, India will have big moves in the field of AI and AI chips one after another.
