Qualcomm and Sequans have jointly announced that they have reached a definitive agreement under which Qualcomm will acquire Sequans' 4G Internet of Things technology. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals in France.
Qualcomm said the transaction, which adds Sequans' 4G iot technology to its advanced end-to-end iot solutions, will strengthen the Industrial iot portfolio and provide a unique opportunity for the company to establish leadership in the space.
Nakul Duggal, general manager of Qualcomm's Automotive, Industrial and Embedded iot and Cloud Computing Group, said the acquisition of Sequans' 4G iot technology will add to Qualcomm's broad product portfolio and further strengthen Qualcomm's offering of low-power solutions for enterprise customers to provide reliable, optimized cellular connectivity for industrial iot applications.
Sequans will retain full rights to continue to use the technology commercially through a perpetual license agreement to support the company's ability to expand its 4G business and develop its 5G portfolio. Sequans is a designer, developer and supplier of cellular semiconductor solutions for large-scale key iot markets.
