Micron Taiwan purchased land to produce DRAM, Taiwan HBM expansion opportunities or suspense

Micron Technology and AU Optronics recently entered into a surprise deal in which Micron will acquire AU's plant and facilities in Tainan, but not for the anticipated HBM expansion, but for the front-line wafer testing of DRAM production. This shift has allowed the industry to reassess Taiwan's position in the global semiconductor landscape.

Micron was widely expected to expand its HBM back-end packaging capacity in Taiwan to meet the strong demand for high-speed storage in the AI era. However, Micron's decision points to support for the DRAM business rather than directly entering the HBM market. This can not help but make people worry about whether China's Taiwan will miss this round of semiconductor technology upgrade key opportunities.

In the context of increasingly fierce global semiconductor competition, countries have introduced preferential policies to attract investment and strive to occupy a place in the AI era. Micron as a global memory giant, its investment trend has naturally become the focus of attention.

Although Micron's land purchase plan in Taiwan has not directly promoted HBM's production expansion, its continued investment in Taiwan still shows the importance of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
